Suture Spells

As brush beats against a rockface, the space held between arms swells and collapses. Suture Spells is a silent experimental film developed from a series of performance scores, used as invocations, to investigate the feral entanglements between the human animal, the land, and memory. The film uses diptychs of super 8mm film and still photographs to explore how meaning changes in the interplay of pairings between images. Set in the Sonoran desert in Southern Arizona, Suture Spells documents experiments in invoking the human animal. The performance scores were created in collaboration with Ana Rosa-Marx and performed by Hattie Houser. The footage was documented and edited by Ana Rosa-Marx.
